SMSRules Privacy Notice
Last updated: August 7, 2026
Privacy summary
SMSRules is an iPhone message-filtering utility that classifies new messages from unknown senders locally, using keyword rules you create.
- We do not upload, store, or sell your message content, sender information, or rules.
- We do not use advertising SDKs, third-party analytics SDKs, or cross-app or cross-website tracking.
- We do not create accounts, and normal use does not require a phone number or email address.
Message filtering
When the SMSRules filter is enabled, iOS supplies eligible new messages to the filter extension. The extension checks message text against your rules on the device and returns a category to iOS. SMSRules cannot read message history and does not send messages to our servers.
Data stored on your device
Your keywords, destination categories, rule order, and app preferences are stored locally in an App Group so the main app and filter extension can share them. You can delete rules in the app or remove local data by uninstalling the app.
Rule import and export
When you export rules, SMSRules creates a JSON file containing keywords, destination categories, and rule order, then hands it to the iOS share or file interface. On import, the app reads only the JSON file you select. Storage, recipients, and cloud synchronization are controlled by the system service or third-party app you choose.
Permissions and system limits
The core feature relies on the iOS message filter extension. SMSRules does not request location, camera, microphone, contacts, photos, or tracking permissions. iOS decides which messages are eligible for filtering and how categories appear in Messages.
Technical support email
If you email technical support, we receive your email address, message, and any device model, iOS version, app version, screenshots, and reproduction steps you choose to provide. We use this only to respond and troubleshoot. Do not send real message content, phone numbers, verification codes, financial information, or identity information.
Children and sensitive information
SMSRules is not designed to collect personal information, and we do not knowingly collect children's personal information. Because you enter rule keywords yourself, avoid placing unnecessary sensitive information in rules or support emails.
Changes
If app features or data practices change, we will revise this notice and its last-updated date. Material changes will be highlighted where appropriate.
