FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Can SMSRules read existing message history?

No. An iOS message filter extension only handles new messages delivered by the system and cannot read or reclassify message history.

Why did a new rule not work?

Confirm SMSRules is selected in Settings, the sender is unknown, and no higher rule matched first. After changing the system subcategories you use, select the filter again to refresh the category folders.

Do multiple keywords mean “all” or “any”?

Every keyword in one rule must appear. To match any one of several keywords, create separate rules.

Why can I use only five system subcategories?

iOS limits one message filter to five transaction or promotion subcategories. Inbox and Junk do not use those slots.

How do I back up or move rules?

Export a JSON file under Rule Files in the app settings. Import it on another device and choose whether to merge with or replace existing rules.
